Welcome, this is my new blog. I will be covering many subjects relating to Counselling & Psychotherapy :
- Addictions – There are many ways to think about Addictions, I shall be exploring them on this site. One way to think about Addictions is using Attachment Theory; when a persons original Attachment was not secure enough they may Attach to an object, person, state of mind, or unhelpful pattern. i.e. alcohol, drugs-both legal and illegal, sex, gambling, eating, not eating, shopping, self-harm, Internet use, work and more. Though this attachment object may be harmful in some way at least it is a constant and so soothes the archaic part of the person that was missed.
- Childhood Trauma – Peoples Psych’s are incredibly adept in finding clever ways to survive Trauma. Some times this entails splitting off part of the internal self. Some times making a pact – I can survive this as long as; I’m always perfect, I always struggle, I don’t succeed in life, I don’t Trust, I am always in control, I don’t feel, I don’t think, I don’t belong, … Though these ways were useful for survival at the time, in adulthood they can limit a persons ability to be fully themselves.
- Depression – More than 2 weeks of feeling ‘down’.
- Relationship break up – often a cause of great stress. It can not only be painful in it’s own right but can uncover underlining difficult feelings about self, others and the world. In the heat of it all it can be useful to have a safe space kept by an experienced professional to talk things through.
- Counselling – sometimes erroneously spelt counseling or counceling.
- Neurological Research – Brain scans are becoming more available and the will to find out what changes go on in the brain increases. This has led to some interesting initial findings. It seems that long term Depth Psychotherapy can effect a change in the neural networks of clients that stay changed. Where as change effected by prescribed drugs reverts back after the medication is stopped.
- Crisis – a time when Counselling may be of help.
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder – clinical term for an Anxiety Disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts. Often suffers engage in repetitive actions in an attempt to reduce the anxiety.
- Eating Disorders -including Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.
- Phobias -
